Have you already thought about where you’d like to go?
or all of them? If you have decided to charter a sailboat, here are some fantastic destinations you can reach in 9 days, including the return journey. Corsica, the island of Elba and Capraia offer breathtaking landscapes, crystal-clear waters and unforgettable adventures.
A possible itinerary
Days 1-2: from Marina del Fezzano to the island of Capraia – 60 miles
Set sail at dawn with the land breeze and reach wild Capraia in about 10 hours of sailing. In the small harbour (which you will have booked in advance) you’ll find restaurants, shops and services. As you leave the island heading south, you can admire the stunning Cala Rossa with its striking rocks.
Days 3-4: from Capraia to Macinaggio in Corsica – 20 miles
A relaxed sail to reach Cap Corse and its bays. The harbour is well sheltered from the mistral, scirocco and libeccio, but watch out for the grecale! It is built right next to the village, which you can reach on foot to enjoy an excellent bouillabaisse.
Days 5-6 – From Macinaggio to Fetovaia on Elba – 34 miles
After a lovely Corsican night, head back towards Elba to reach the famous bay of Fetovaia, a small paradise gulf where you can moor – even overnight if the weather is good. If conditions don’t allow it, you can reach the Gulf of Marina di Campo, a few miles further on, where you can go ashore by tender and stroll around the village, which has everything you need.
Day 7 – From Marina di Campo to Porto Azzurro – 15 miles
Porto Azzurro is always worth a visit! For its sheltered bays if you don’t want to go ashore, or for its Spanish-flavoured lanes, shopping and good drinks. At this time of year you can almost certainly find a berth in the marina, which is almost impossible in summer.
Day 8 – From Porto Azzurro to Portoferraio – 15 miles
On the way back, it’s time to point the bow north, pass the Isola dei Topi and turn east towards Portoferraio. In the afternoon you’ll reach the bay of Portoferraio (remember that the harbour entrance is on the left!), which still keeps its old Renaissance charm – and let’s not forget that Napoleon spent his 100 days of exile here.
Day 9 – From Portoferraio to Marina del Fezzano – 80 miles
It’s the last day: be ready at dawn to set course for Marina del Fezzano, your home port. 13 hours of sailing await you! If the wind is in your favour you’ll enjoy an unforgettable sail, otherwise the engine will take you back to the marina, where a pleasant evening awaits. You’ll have reached the end of a journey full of long passages (250 nautical miles), wild unspoilt landscapes, beautiful romantic anchorages, harbours with a unique old-world charm and food and wine you won’t easily find on land.
Conclusion
With this itinerary you can live – and keep in your memories – a unique adventure between Corsica, Elba and Capraia. Every day will be a chance to discover enchanting places, taste the local cuisine and enjoy the natural beauty of the Mediterranean, envied all over the world. Ready to set sail?
